“Lu scarpalau laureatu” - the graduated shoemaker - is a traditional carnival character from the town of Monteroni. The character can be easily recognised because he is wearing together the toga and the apron, typical for the shoemaker.
“Lu scarpalau laureatu” is the symbol of Monteroni’s Carnival and it guides the parade on the first line. The parade walks through the streets of the town, through Via Cavour, Via Mazzini, Via Roma and it arrives in Falconieri square, where is located Palazzo Ducale.
Musica e allegria sono gli ingredienti della festa in maschera di Monteroni, che invade il '''centro del paese''', da via Cavour a via Mazzini, da via Roma a piazza Falconieri, dove sorge il Palazzo Ducale. A guidare i cortei e le danze è proprio lo “Scarpalau laureatu”, che è ormai il simbolo del Carnevale in questo paese.
