The religious tradition says that Anna and Gioacchino were the parents of Maria and that’s why they are celebrated, during a procession, which takes their remains throughout the town of Vernole.
The statues of Anna and Gioacchino, along with a statue of Maria when she was a child, are taken into the procession.
In the end of the procession, the notes of the marching band come from the “cassa armonica” placed in the main square, while people walk through gastronomic and commercial stalls. The celebrations terminate in the evening with a fireworks show.
