A festival entirely dedicated to a product of the land: the pepper. The event takes place in Acquarica di Lecce, municipality of Vernole. It offers the vegetable cooked in different recipes, with tomato sauce (“alla pizzaiola”) or filled with rice and meat. It keeps alive in the memory the time in which almost all the countryside surrounding the village was cultivated with this crop.
The production of peppers was so copious that farmers were able to place them in wood box, so close to each other, that if the box was turned around, nothing was falling out. The festival is organised from Pro Loco Acquarica, to remind the citizens about these days.
Ai prelibati ortaggi rossi e gialli negli stand si affiancano altre pietanze tipichecome i “pezzetti” di cavallo al sugo mentre la musica popolare accompagna il convivio tra un assaggio e l’altro.
