The coast part of the municipality of Melendugno, has been awarded from Legambiente with “5 vele”, in the list of the most beautiful beaches of Italy for the high level of conservation of the natural environment.
The coastal ecosystem is peculiar and it has been valorised with some interventions, as the recovery of the Brunese stream and the creation of a natural depuration lake. Moreover, the entire coastal area is now under protection as natural area.
La zona diventerà a breve un vero e proprio Ecomuseo, impreziosito da importanti beni culturali come il sito archeologico di Roca Vecchia, il villaggio medievale di Roca Nuova, la Grotta della Poesia e quella di San Cristoforo.
