The cult of Santi Medici links the town of Melendugno to the towns of Latina and Bitonto, its twin towns. The main location for the religious celebrations is the chiesa dell’Addolorata, in Melendugno, where the statues of the Saints Damiano and Cosmo are preserved.
In the end of September, the ritual starts with the unction of ill citizens. The following day, the statues are taken into a procession from Chiesa Madre to Chiesa dell’Addolorata, along with the marching band.
Once the procession has arrived in Chiesa dell’Addolorata, the traditional kiss of the remains of the Saints takes place. Afterwards, a fireworks show announces the conclusion of the celebrations.
