The town of San Foca has the same name of its Patron Saint: San Foca. San Foca is a martyr who lived between the 1st and the 2nd A.C., when Traiano was ruling the Roman Empire.
The celebration of San Foca takes place during the summer. The peak of the religious ritual, full of pathos, is the procession on the sea. The statue of Saint Foca is placed on a boat, which moves along the coast and it is followed from every kind of vessels, decorated with lights and garlands.
The marching band plays during the days of celebration and the town is decorated with the colourful luminarie (decorative structures of wood and lights). On the waterfront, it can be found from the visitors, stalls of handicrafts and of sweets and candies.
