Lu Riu

Lu riu is the Tuesday after the Easter Sunday, and it is traditionally celebrated in Lecce as a day to be spent with families and friend in the nature.

In the beginning of the spring, with warm climate, Lu riu is a good excuse to spend one day outdoor. The origin of this tradition comes from the devotion to the Madonna di Loreto, with a pilgrimage to the church of Santa Maria d’Aurio

In the countryside just outside the city, in direction of Surbo, in the morning is celebrated the service, in the ancient medieval church. The service is followed from a social moments of sharing some food just outside the church.

In the past few years, the municipality has organised an outdoor day in the natural park of Rauccio. In which food tastings, concerts and excursions take place for the all day long.
