Botanic garden of the University of Salento

Nature and research merged to create a unique garden. The botanic garden of the University of Salento is a museum in the open air. It has the objective to conserve and valorise indigenous species as well as to show international ones, mainly for research purposes.

The botanic garden is place in Lecce, in the campus of Ecotekne. It was founded in 1994 from the department of biological and environmental sciences. It has several collections and its main aim is to preserve the indigenous species of the Salento area.

Hundreds of vegetal species can be seen in the botanic garden. An orchard shows the local fruit productions and, in another part, are cultivated the traditional medical and cooking herbs. Exotic species are placed as well in the botanic garden for academic and research purposes.
