Lu Paulinu is the symbol of carnival in San Cesario. The origin of this singular character is not clear but he is well know in the popular tradition in Salento and especially in San Cesario.
To mark the end of the carnival, after the parades, the dances and the masks, it is celebrated the death of “lu Paulinu”. This is a metaphor to mark the change from the happiness of carnival to the Lent period.
L’evento coinvolge tutti i cittadini, che per l’occasione indossano il proprio costume di Carnevale e accompagnano idealmente la bara in cui è deposto il fantoccio de “lu Paulinu”. A organizzare la divertente cerimonia è l’associazione culturale “FolleMente” con il patrocinio del Comune di San Cesario.
