“Sagra de lu purpu” literally means “festival of octopus”. It is one of the most famous in Salento during the summer period and it takes place in Melendugno. The octopus can be tasted in many different recipes along with the dishes of the traditional cuisine of the area.
The gastronomic stalls offer fried octopus, octopus balls, octopus cooked “alla pignatta” (a terracotta special pot) and much more. From the traditional cuisine many offers even for those who love meat, like roasted meat and “pezzetti di cavallo” (horse meat cooked in tomato sauce). Additionally, for vegetarians, there are dishes like bruschetta (crunchy warm bread with olive oil and tomatoes) and “pittule” (fried dough).
Ad animare le serate c’è anche tanta musica dal vivo e sul palco le sonorità della tradizione salentina si alternano con artisti di fama nazionale.
