It is very peculiar species of tomato with a long shape of a strong red, and it is as well very juicy. It grows in the region between Lecce and Torre Chianca.

The intense red and the texture make this species very esteemed. It has a unique way of cultivation and it requires a careful selection of seeds. During the summer season, it is necessary to till deeply the soil and then plantation takes place in March.

Seeds selection must be done carefully and in the traditional way, used hundreds of years ago. After squeezing the tomatoes, seeds are taken out and kept into a sieve, exposed to the sun, until they are dried.
