San Niceta is the Patron Saint of the town of Melendugno. The Saint has gothic origins and it is celebrated in September, with a large participation of all the citizens. The city is decorated with luminarie (decorative structures of wood and lights) and the centre is invaded from stands of every kind.

Le celebrazioni entrano nel vivo il giorno della vigilia con la banda che fa risuonare le strade fin dal mattino. La processione accompagna la statua di San Niceta a benedire Melendugno, accolta al suo rientro dai fuochi d’artificio.
Il giorno della solennità religiosa, il 16 settembre, all’alba si celebra la messa nell’abbazia di San Niceta, una cappella rurale circondata dagli ulivi, e ci si sposta poi in piazza per ascoltare il concerto della banda.
