Two very peculiar stacks, called “the two sisters” can be admired from the beach of Torre dell’Orso, municipality of Melendugno. The legend says that two beautiful sisters, who have never saw the sea, were living in Melendugno.
During a very warm summer, the two sisters decided to walk until the sea, searching for a cooler place. However, since they did not know how to swim, the younger sister drowned among the waves.
The older sister immediately dove into the sea, to save her sister. Unfortunately, she did not know how to swim either, and she drowned as well. A fisherman heard the two girls screaming and he decided to try to help them. However, once he arrived with his boat, he found in front of him two big stacks, which were not there before. Since this day, the two stacks are known as “the two sisters”.
