Two very peculiar stacks, called “the two sisters” can be admired from the beach of Torre dell’Orso, municipality of Melendugno. The legend says that two beautiful sisters, who have never saw the sea, were living in Melendugno.
During a very warm summer, the two sisters decided to walk until the sea, searching for a cooler place. However, since they did not know how to swim, the younger sister drowned among the waves.

Durante un’estate particolarmente afosa, le sorelle decisero di raggiungere il mare in cerca di un po’ di refrigerio. Non sapendo nuotare, però, la più giovane fu rapita dai flutti senza saper tornare a riva.
La sorella maggiore, allora, si tuffò in mare nel disperato tentativo di salvarla, ma neppure lei fu in grado di nuotare. Un pescatore udì le grida delle giovinette e, accorso nel punto in cui sembravano provenire, si trovò davanti all’inatteso spettacolo di due imponenti faraglioni che mai aveva visto prima: da allora, quelle rocce sono dette “le due Sorelle”.
