In cammino verso il mare mentre il sole sorge. È la '''festa della Madonna di Roca''', un appuntamento caro ai fedeli di Vernole che ogni anno, alle prime luci dell’alba, si incamminano dall’entroterra verso l’Adriatico perpetuando la memoria di un miracolo, la salvezza dalle incursioni turche grazie all’intervento della Vergine, che apparve agli antichi abitanti di Roca esortandoli a trasferirsi in un luogo più lontano dalla costa, proprio dove oggi sorge Vernole.

Lo stesso tragitto, ma in direzione opposta, lo compiono oggi i pellegrini che si svegliano prima che sia giorno e percorrono lentamente i 15 chilometri che li separano dal santuario della Madonna di Roca.

La ricorrenza religiosa diventa conviviale quando i vernolesi si ritrovano intorno al luogo sacro per pranzare tutti insieme all’aperto.
