A Monteroni di Lecce il '''Carnevale''' è molto sentito, tanto che esiste anche una giornata appositamente dedicata al Carnevale dei ragazzi.

La '''mascotte''' del paese è “lu Scarpalau laureatu”, ovvero “il calzolaio laureato”, un '''curioso personaggio''' che si riconosce facilmente perché indossa la toga accademica ma anche il grembiule da calzolaio.

Musica e allegria sono gli ingredienti della festa in maschera di Monteroni, che invade il '''centro del paese''', da via Cavour a via Mazzini, da via Roma a piazza Falconieri, dove sorge il Palazzo Ducale. A guidare i cortei e le danze è proprio lo “Scarpalau laureatu”, che è ormai il simbolo del Carnevale in questo paese.
