Il patrono di Melendugno ha origini gote e nel mese di settembre si festeggia in grande con la sentita partecipazione di tutti i cittadini. Il paese si veste a '''festa''' con le luminarie e addobbi, mentre il centro si popola di bancarelle d’ogni tipo.

Le celebrazioni entrano nel vivo il giorno della vigilia con la '''banda''' che fa risuonare le strade fin dal mattino. La processione accompagna la statua di San Niceta a benedire Melendugno, accolta al suo rientro dai fuochi d’artificio.

Il giorno della solennità religiosa, il 16 settembre, all’alba si celebra la messa nell’'''abbazia di San Niceta''', una cappella rurale circondata dagli ulivi, e ci si sposta poi in piazza per ascoltare il concerto della banda.
