Il patrono di San Foca è un martire vissuto tra I e II secolo dopo Cristo, quando Traiano era a capo dell’impero Romano. I fedeli della marina di Melendugno bagnata dall’Adriatico sono molto legati a '''San Foca''', da cui prende il nome il loro paese.
